Irian Jaya is the part of Indonesia that covers the western side of the huge, remote island of New Guinea, which it shares with the separate country of Papua New Guinea. Jagged mountain ranges and areas of crocodile infested marshland, some parts have still barely been explored. The Baliem Valley is surrounded by 3,000m high peaks and is populated by three different tribes. We spend
8 days trekking through the valley, either camping or staying in simple village huts gaining a unique insight into their disappearing way of life. Around us the lush jungle echoes
to the calls of dazzling birds of paradise, rare species of flora and fauna thrive in this incredibly rich natural environment.
